THE RENDLESHAM HURDLE IS A POTENTIAL PATTERN RACE TRIAL FOR THE STAYERS' HURDLE AT THE CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL
The Rendlesham Hurdle is a Grade 2 horse race run at Haydock Park over a trip of 3m 1f each February. The race has often proven to be a key trial race for the Stayers' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival with a number of the winners going onto perform well at Prestbury Park. The most famous winner of the Rendlesham in recent years was certainly Baracouda in 2002 who went onto to win the Stayers Hurdle the following month to complete the double.
In 2013 the Rendlesham was run under the Betfred banner and won by the progressive Across The Bay for Donald McCain. He clearly enjoyed the trip at Haydock and he went onto produce a bold effort in the Grand National in his following race when finishing in 14th place.
