THE LIMESTONE LAD HURDLE IS PATTER RACE TRIAL FOR THE CHAMPION HURDLE AT THE CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL
The Limestone Lad is a grade 3 race run over a trip of 2m at Naas each January. It is one of the premier races of the season to be held at Naas and offers punters plenty of clues with the Cheltenham Festival in mind. The race is of course named after Limestone Lad who was won of the bets hurdles Ireland ever produced, winning no less than 35 of his 65 starts during an illustrious career.
The Limestone Lad was first run in 2009 at Naas and has been won by some decent horses recently. The best of them came in 2013 when Solwhit claimed a famous win at Naas before going onto win the World Hurdle at Cheltenham in some style for trainer Colm Byrnes.
Prior to 2017, the race was run over 2m3f.
