THE BOBBYJO CHASE IS A PATTERN RACE TRIAL FOR THE GRAND NATIONAL AT AINTREE
The Bobyjo Chase is a grade 2 race run at Fairyhouse over a trip of 3m1f each February. The race is named after the famous Irish Grand National winning horse of 1999 and has been run ever since 2003. As well as being a decent race to win its own right, the Bobbyjo often acts as a key trial race for horses heading over to Liverpool to run in the National. The most memorable winner of the Bobbyjo Chase to date was Hedgehunter who won in 2005 before going onto win the Grand National just a few weeks later.
Willie Mullins trained Hedgehunter to success here and he has also picked up a number of other Bobbyjo winners in recent years including Rathvinden, Pleasant Company and Boston Bob among others.
