THE BETFAIR CHASE IS A PATTERN RACE FOR THE GOLD CUP AT CHELTENHAM
The Betfair Chase has only been run since 2005 at Haydock but already it has established itself as one of the premier early season trials for the Cheltenham Gold Cup. It is often the first time we see some of the 3 mile chasers each season and big names winners of this race in the past include the likes of Kauto Star and Imperial Commander who are both Gold Cup winners at the Festival.
The race itself is run over 3 miles and we are likely to see some genuine contenders for the Gold Cup make their seasonal reappearance at Haydock which makes it a fascinating betting heat. 2017 and 2018 winner Bristol De Mai will be heading back to the Betfair Chase and that alone is enough to make it a key trial race on the way to the 2020 Cheltenham Festival.
