THE ASCOT HURDLE IS A PATTERN TRIAL RACE FOR THE CHAMPION HURDLE OR STAYERS' HURDLE AT CHELTENHAM
The Coral Ascot Hurdle is a grade 2 race run over a trip of 2m3f each November. It is one of the best early season races on the National hunt calendar and often attracts a stellar field. There have been some excellent winners of the Coral Ascot Hurdle in recent years with plenty of top class horses heading to the race on their way to an appointment at the Cheltenham Festival.
The Ascot Hurdle has been used as a trial for both the Champion Hurdle and the Stayers Hurdle down the years. The last horse to win this race and the Champion Hurdle was Faugheen, while it was Baracouda who last won at Ascot before going onto to lift the stayers crown at the Festival. Other recent winners include Overturn, Silvinicao Conti, Oscar Whisky and Annie Power who have all gone onto become horses of the very highest quality.
