The traditional Cheltenham Festival roar greeted the tapes going up in the Supreme Novices Hurdle as the 2011 Cheltenham Festival got underway; all eyes were on Cue Card who had been all the rage in the betting with punters keeping their fingers crossed. The early pace was set by Dunraven Storm and Magen's Staar who both looked keen to go faster over the first mile with the field well grouped together. The field turned in in a tight cluster and it was anyone's race at this stage with all the major contenders on good shape going over the third last with Cue Card, Spirit Son and Sprinter Sacre all looking in good shape.
Cue Card was cruising up to the second last but the danger looked to be Sprinter Sacre and AP McCoy who was motionless on board his horse. Cue Card all of sudden started to be niggled at was in trouble with Al Ferof also coming into the picture with four horses all in contention going over the final hurdle. It was quickly clear that Cue Card was beaten and it was the fast finishing Al Ferof who simply powered up the hill to hold off Spirit Son who also stayed on well and Sprinter Sacre, but the only winners here were the bookmakers who managed to get Cue Card beaten into 4th place.
