Day 1 - Tuesday 10th March 2020 - 1.30pm - Supreme Novices' Hurdle - Grade 1 - 2m
The Cheltenham Festival gets underway each year with the Supreme Novices Hurdle, a grade one event run over a distance just exceeding two miles.
The Supreme is run at a fast and furious pace as tends to be the norm at this big National Hunt Race meeting. The race attracts a large number of entrants and therefore experience of competing in similar big fields before Cheltenham is often of paramount importance.
The 2020 renewal looks very open at this stage.
The Irish have dominated the Supreme Novices's Hurdle with eleven winners since the turn of the Millennium.
Trainer Willie Mullins has been especially prolific winning the race five times and three of the last six years.
Last season's winner was Klassical Cream for trainer Willie Mullins and jockey Willie Mullins.
Ruby Walsh has six wins in the race, another three with Willie Mullins aboard Champagne Fever in 2013, Vautour (2014) and Douvan (2015), plus two with Paul Nicholls, Noland in 2006 and Al Ferof in 2011.
The Tolworth Hurdle was a prominent trial in 2018, with the first and second at Sandown finishing in the same positions in March.
