Fred Winter Handicap Hurdle 2017 Results

There was a huge gamble on the John Hanlon-trained Linger in the lead-up to the Fred Winter, but that Irish challenger ran no sort of race and it was the Nick Williams-trained Flying Tiger, who caused a 33/1 shock, as he fought off the 9/2 favourite Divin Bere in the penultimate race on day two of the Cheltenham Festival.

A highly-competitive renewal, Divin Bere was always prominent for Noel Fehily, but it was Flying Tiger that produced the most up the home straight, as he outbattled Divin Bere to hand Richard Johnson his first winner of the 2017 festival.

Nietzsche ran a cracker to finish third in the race, while the smooth travelling Project Bluebook completed the placings in fourth in another race that would have sent the bookmakers into raptures.
