Yorkhill provided the usually lethal combination of Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh their first winner of the 2017 Cheltenham Festival, as the 6/4 favourite showed his class to win the JLT Novices' Chase by beating Top Notch by a length in a cracking opener to day three of the meeting.

The Co. Carlow duo had suffered a tough few days with a plethora of fancied runners, including Douvan, failing to get on the scoresheet, but an exquisite ride from Walsh saw him keep an inside track throughout the race, and on board last year's Neptune winner he stormed to glory.

Kept out the back for most of the race, Yorkhill was forced to dodge the falling Balko Des Flos in the middle of the contest, but having eased up the inside of main rival Top Notch in the final stages, he kicked to the front, and despite idling slightly when in front, Walsh managed to keep him going up the hill to eventually beat Top Notch by a length, with Disko completing the placings.
