My Tent Or Yours Had A Remarkable Career In The Colours Of JP McManus

This week it was announced that owner JP McManus had bought three exciting horses all of which are being aimed at the 2019 Cheltenham Festival in March. He will hope that Fakir D’Oudairies, Konitho and Blue Sari all fulfil their early promise but this article will highlight the success of some of his private purchases in recent seasons.

Successes...

Buveur D’Air

Buveur D’Air was purchased by JP McManus after the 2015/16 season following his victory in the Top Novices Hurdle (Grade 1) at Aintree. He finished his novice season rated 152 and is now currently rated 172 following his subsequent six Grade 1 victories including two champion hurdles at Cheltenham.

My Tent Or Yours

My Tent Or Yours was purchased by JP McManus after three bumper runs with the last coming when second in the Grade 2 Aintree Bumper in 2012. Despite finishing 2ndin three Champion Hurdles he still had a good career record with 9 wins from 25 runs including two Grade 1 victories (Fighting Fifth and Christmas Hurdle) and two Grade 2 victories and a peak rating of 168.

Yanworth

Yanworth was purchased from Alan King following his debut bumper success at Wincanton and definitely fulfilled the promise of that run. He currently has a career record of 12 wins from 19 runs with two Grade 1 victories (Christmas Hurdle and Liverpool Stayers Hurdle) and five Grade 2 victories both over hurdles and fences.

At Fishers Cross

At Fishers Cross was another horse JP McManus bought following a debut bumper success but was transferred from the Swan stable in Ireland over to Rebecca Curtis in the UK. He won all six of his novice hurdles including the Grade 1 double at Cheltenham and Aintree in the Albert Bartlett and Sefton and despite his form tailing off towards the end of his career he will be remembered fondly as a horse once rated 162.

Unowhatimeanharry

Unowhatimeanharry was purchased as an 8 year old following his victory in the Albert Bartlett when rated 152. When buying a Grade 1 winner, it would be hard for him to further this form but with two further Grade 1 wins, two Grade 2 wins and a peak rating of 167 it would be hard not to rate his purchase a success.

Failures...

Castello Sforza

Castello Sforza was purchased following a debut bumper success and despite finishing 4th in the Champion Bumper in 2016 he has subsequently been beaten in four maiden hurdles sent off at evens, evens, 8/11 and 5/2 and has now left Willie Mullins to be trained by Padraig Roche.

Call The Cops

Call The Cops won the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham and finished 2nd at Aintree when rated 153 and was purchased at the end of that season. He hasn’t won a race since though and has left Nicky Henderson to be trained by Ben Haslam who is now rated only 102 following 14 defeats for his new owner.
