With the new jumps season fast approaching one horse who could have a big campaign is Weapons Amnesty, the 2010 RSA Chase winner missed last year with an injury but is now back in good health for connections. Weapons Amnesty is a double Cheltenham Festival winner and could now have a campaign aimed towards the Gold Cup where he could prove to be an interesting runner against the more established names. The horse is owned by the all powerful Gigginstown House Stud and as well as an RSA Chase win to his name he also won the Albert Bartlett at the Festival back in 2009 making him very much a Cheltenham specialist. The RSA Chase is always a good bench mark for the Gold Cup the following year and he looks to have enough class to step up to Gold Cup company.
The Gold Cup picture for the new season will be all about Long Run again who won the race in March and with the likes of Denman and Imperial Commander not getting any younger it looks as though Weapons Amnesty could be a major contender. The horse is still only eight and could be ready for his best season having been lightly raced during his career so far and at the moment he features well in the Gold Cup betting. Long Run of course remains the favourite for the Gold Cup at this very early stage having won so well last season, but in he will face a new brigade of challengers with Weapons Amnesty quite possibly at the head of the queue. The trainer of Weapons Amnesty Colm Murphy has also confirmed that his other stable star Solwhit will go chasing this year having found Hurricane fly too good last season over hurdles and it will be interesting to see how he fares.
