At this part of the season punters are always looking out for some potential Cheltenham festival stars for March and the Gold Cup as always is the big betting race. At the moment we are looking for potential challengers to Long Run in the Gold Cup and one exciting contender is Time For Rupert who could make his seasonal debut in the Charlie Hall Chase. The Paul Webber trained horse was unable to justify favouritism in the RSA Chase last season after he was found to have an infection but connections are hopeful of a return to form. Leading up to Cheltenham he was all the rage after enjoying two excellent wins as a Novice Chaser and although he disappointed punters he deserves a second chance as he clearly possesses plenty of talent.
Long Run was dominant over three miles last season as he won the King George Chase and the Gold Cup in a breakthrough season for the former French horse. Long Run will only improve over the next couple of years so punters will need to look towards the younger horses like Time For Rupert if they are to find some value in the ante post market. We have seen the best of the likes of Kauto Star and Denman in the past, while Imperial Commander has already been ruled out for the season leaving Long Run the current hot favourite in the Gold Cup Betting. The Charlie Hall Chase is the first real big trial race of the season for the Cheltenham Gold Cup and a good run for Time For Rupert will bring a bit of much needed spice to the market as we try to find a horse to oppose the favourite.
