Ryanair Chase Betting Looks Competitive

Wednesday 3rd March 2010

The Ryanair Chase is a race that over the past few years in particular has grown in stature and along with the World Hurdle forms the feature of Day 3 of the Cheltenham Festival. The 2010 list of runners is looking like it could well be a classic race both on the track and in the betting rings with some high class chasers going for the Ryanair this year. The 2009 Ryanair Chase winner was the impressive Imperial Commander and he has gone onto become a real Gold Cup contender this season, it can often be a stepping stone to bigger things so should be watched very carefully.

There are a number of runners with entries for the Ryanair Chase who are well fancied at this stage with the betting looking competitive, there is some good value for punters in the ante-post markets with the bookmakers struggling to decide on a clear favourite. Paul Nicholls has trained two of the last five winners and he looks set to have a strong hand once again in 2010. Poquelin is a runner in fine form this season and has been aimed at the Ryanair Chase for some time, he has won two of his three runs so far this season with both wins coming at Cheltenham. He has course form and with Ruby Walsh likely to take the ride he will go into the race well backed to take the win. He has been beaten once this season by Tranquil Sea in the Paddy Power Gold Cup Chase also at Cheltenham and he is another with a Ryanair entry. That was an impressive win over Poquelin on soft ground and if he can repeat that form then then he will go close as the Ryanair Chase Odds are currently reflecting.

Barbers Shop is one who is an experienced Cheltenham Festival runner having been a top horse for some time now, he was a real Gold Cup contender last season before coming in 7th behind the big guns. His connections have to decided to swerve Kauto Star and Denman this year and he will go in the Ryanair Chase with a real chance of claiming the win. He ran a blinder in the King George Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day to finish third and if he can replicate that form then he has every chance of success here for the Queen. Another runner with a live chance is Schindlers Hunt who has been mixing it in top class fields all season, he hasn't picked up a win this term but he is more often than not placed and should not be ruled out. He was third in this race last season and on that basis deserves to be given real consideration from punters in this excellent looking 2010 Ryanair Chase.
