RSA Chase Favourite Dynaste Still Has Jewson Festival Option

Tuesday 26th February 2013

We may only be two weeks away from the Cheltenham Festival but there are still plenty of mysteries to solve when it comes to which horses will run in which races. One of the most important and eagerly awaited decisions surrounds the target of hot novice Dynaste who has been in scintillating form so far this winter. The grey has long been the favourite for the the three miles RSA Chase at the Festival but David Pipe has not ruled out brining him back in trip. If that is the case, the Jewson Novices Chase will be his Festival aim and trainer David Pipe has said that the decision will be left as late as possible.

The feeling is that if the ground comes up too soft at Cheltenham then connections would prefer to avoid giving him a difficult race over three miles leaving the weather as the main factor here. The conditions are drying at Prestbury Park which is a good sign for punters who have backed Dynaste for the RSA Chase, but as we know there is more than enough time for that to change over the coming fortnight.

Trainer David Pipe has suggested that three miles is the long term aim for the horse who is unbeaten over fences so far. Dynaste was very impressive in winning the Feltham Novices Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day and has been kept fresh since with the Cheltenham Festival in mind. Connections will be keen to avoid a repeat of last season when Grands Crus built up a similar profile to Dynaste before flopping in the RSA Chase. Grands Crus was touted as the best novice chaser of his generation after winning the Feltham but he has never been able to kick on from there which has to be slight worry for fans of Dynaste.

It is however fair to say that Dynaste has been super impressive this season in winning all three of his starts over fences. He has a win at Cheltenham on his record from earlier in the season which is a positive while so far his jumping has been almost foot perfect ensuring he is very much one to watch at this stage. Punters backing him for either race ante-post may want to have to have a Non Runner, No Bet concession as a safety net but both the RSA and the Jewson clearly remain real possibilities for the time being.

Dynaste Cheltenham Festival Race Odds

  • 2/1 - to win the RSA Chase
  • 3/1 - to win the Jewson Novices Chase
