Punjabi got back to winning ways at Kempton Park in the Racing Post iPhone app hurdle. This was his first victory since he won the champion hurdle last season. This follows two disappointing runs this season and at least this should lift his confidence before the championship race at the festival on March 16th.
There has been a few who have suggested that races such as this one have no place on the racing calendar. This was a race which was set up for Nicky Henderson's horse due to the abandonment of the Kingwell Hurdle last weekend. The Irish are content to do racecourse gallops a few weeks before the Cheltenham Festival and this will be in evidence on attheraces tomorrow evening after racing at Leoparddstown.
The next question that needs answering is which of the Henderson Champion Hurdle contenders will Barry Geraghty ride. Zaynar who was turned over at long odds on at Kelso, was unbeaten over hurdles prior to last weeks race and for all who saw this race would think that Geraghty will partner Punjabi. This is a question that he will probably leave open until a few days before the start of the festival.
In general the bookies have not made any changes to Punjabi's price for the Champion Hurdle and he can be freely be backed at odds of 10/1 with most bookmakers.
