Punchestown with a mightily impressive performance took the Long Walk Hurdle well clear and of a quality field and immediately had his odds shortened for the World Hurdle at Cheltenham. Ridden brilliantly by Barry Geraghty, Punchestown looked every bit the winner from four out. He coasted past his rivals and won going away. His stablemate, Duc De Regniere held on just for second place from a battling Mobaasher.
Nicky Henderson who had already won the Boylesports International Hurdle with Binocular earlier in the day, looks like he now might have the best two mile and three mile hurdlers in the country on his hands. Indeed Punchestown based on this performance just has to turn up at Cheltenham to win. He looked every bit a horse that one day will be a contender for the Cheltenham Gold Cup. He is now a 2/1 favourite for the World Hurdle a race that he may have at his mercy in the likely absence of three time winner Inglis Drever.
