Presenting Percy landed his second Cheltenham Festival success on Wednesday afternoon, as the Pat Kelly-trained favourite stormed to an emphatic seven length win of the RSA Chase, which saw the second jolly of the afternoon go in for punters on a superb start to the afternoon for the Irish.
A fine winner of the Pertemps Final 12 months ago, Presenting Percy was held out the back by Davy Russell, as Black Corton and Monalee set the pace up front, and the former making a few sketchy jumps during the contest, and the latter failing to settle for Noel Fehily, the race was setting up ideally for Kelly's charge.
Russell gradually worked his way through the field, and as Black Corton struggled to maintain the gallop it left Monalee in front, but he was being reeled in by Presenting Percy, who duly kicked to the front turning for home, and some smart jumps at the final two fences put the race to bed, and he scooted clear to win by seven lengths.
Monalee ran a huge race in defeat, and is sure to be major player in the top staying races next season, while Elegant Escape stayed on to bag third place, but the race was all about Presenting Percy, who showed he could well be a leading Gold Cup contender at next year's festival.
