The dust may only have recently settled on a fantastic National Hunt season but we are already turning our attention to the new campaign and the exciting prospect of season Peddlers Cross going chasing. The Donald McCain Jnr horse had a top class campaign last season culminating in a gallant second behind Hurricane Fly in the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. There has been no confirmation from the yard just yet but all the signs are that he will take to the fences this coming campaign with Arkle Chase his likely target at Cheltenham in March. The McCain yard had a great season 2010/11 with Peddlers Cross and Grand National winner Ballabriggs flying the flag for the famous Racing family.
Peddlers was a top class hurdler with only the excellent Hurricane Fly proving to be better than him at Cheltenham, he was the only horse to mount a serious challenger to the Willie Mullins horse and is clearly a class act. He is expected to take to the fences with ease and that coupled with his class makes him an obvious early favourite for the 2012 Arkle Chase and that is exactly the case at the moment. The Arkle is one of the highlights of any Cheltenham Festival and as well as Peddlers Cross there are a number of other potential Novice Chasers for punters to look forward to. Another one of them being backed at this ante-post stage is Al Ferof who of course won the Supreme Novices Hurdle at the 2011 Festival, and he may go straight over Fences in 2011/12 for Champion Trainer Paul Nicholls.
