Forpadydaplasterer fought off a strong challenge from Kalahri King to win the Arkle Trophy Chase in a thriling finish that had the Irish contingent in the crowd howling with delight.
Ridden brilliantly by Barry Geraghty, the Thomas Cooper trained horse jumped superbly throughout and looked every bit the winner once favourite Tatenen had fallen at the third fence.
Forpady was always there or thereabouts and showed that even when idling a little coming up the hill he had enough under Geraghtys urgings to hold off a late but determined bid from Kalahari King.
It had been known for some time that the winner was being targeted specifically for this race and he never once let his followers down.It was the second winner of the day for Irish horses.
