Oscar Whisky was one of the stars of last season for trainer Nicky Henderson and all eyes are on him this weekend as we wait to see him make his seasonal debut. The horse showed some great form last winter when he won the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las before finishing third in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham and winning the Aintree Hurdle in some style. That is top class form by any standard and connections are now looking to step him up in trip for the new season with the World Hurdle his likely long term target. He will start his season off in a competitive looking Coral Hurdle and a good run there as top weight will boost his Cheltenham chances for March. He will go into the race as the warm favourite for success but he will be giving weight away which will give the rest of the field plenty of hope as Oscar Whisky gets his first run of the season.
The staying hurdle division has been dominated by the great Big Bucks for the past three years and Oscar Whisky will have some way to go if he does go down that route towards the Cheltenham Festival. Nicky Henderson has been bullish about his horse over the past few weeks though and there have been one or two punters taking his price in the ante post World Hurdle Betting recently. Hot favourite Big Bucks will make his seasonal debut in a couple of weeks as we wait to see if he can maintain his brilliant run over the hurdles which will see him go for a fourth successive win at Cheltenham. It is hoped that Oscar Whisky can improve as he moves up in trip this season and if he does then he may well have the class to turn the World Hurdle in a competitive division once again.
