After a few weeks of speculation it has been confirmed as expected that Noel Fehily will be on board Kauto Star for his record breaking attempt at winning the King George VI Chase for an amazing 5th consecutive year. The dual Gold Cup winner is a true legend of the sport and has forged a long and successful partnership with Ruby Walsh in recent years, Walsh though has been stood down after breaking his leg at the start of October leaving connections with a tough decision. In the end Fehily was the logical choice having ridden a number of winners for Paul Nicholls since Walsh was side lined, the booking was confirmed after Fehily rode Master Minded who has the same owner as Kauto Star to victory in the Amlin Chase at Ascot recently.
Kauto Star is the hot favourite for the King George VI Chase on Boxing Day regardless of who rides him having produced some stunning performances at Kempton over recent years. The style of track clearly suits him while another good run there will surely see him on the right track on the way to another crack at the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March; he will be going for his third win in that race having already been successful in 2007 and 2009. At the moment he is vying with Imperial Commander for favouritism for the Gold Cup and both are likely to take in Kempton before going straight to the Cheltenham Festival for the Gold Cup. Kauto Star has something to prove against Imperial Commander at Cheltenham having taken a terrible fall in the Gold Cup last season, punters and fans will be hoping both arrive at Cheltenham this season fit and on form and ready to do battle.
