Carlingford Lough and Maggio were among the nine horses taken out of the Grand National this lunchtime. In total there were nine defectors from the race on Saturday with the final 40 starting to take shape now.
The highest profile withdrawal perhaps came right at the top with Carlingford Lough scratched, which means that The Last Samuri will have to carry 11st 10lbs on Saturday, as he bids to go better than his 2nd place from 2016.
Other horses set to miss the race include the Willie Mullins trained Alelchi Inois, Maggio and Vics Canvas. The remaining horses taking out were Ziga Bog, Foxrock, Sizing Coal, The Romford Pele and Straidnahanna with 70 horses remaining.
As it stands, we have tow horses ties for 40th place with the David Pipe trained Doctor Harper and La Vaticane vying for that final spot in the field. As it stands, La Vaticane is expected to get the nod with his official rating slightly higher but other horses now guaranteed a run include Goodtoknow, Rogue Angel and Cocktails At Dawn to name just a few.
