Nicholls and Henderson Fighting For Cheltenham Top Trainer Favouritism

Monday 7th March 2011

The betting for the Cheltenham Festival Top Trainer is always an interesting sidebar to the meeting itself and this season is no different with Paul Nicholls and Nicky Henderson both looking strong. The market of course gives punters the chance to have a bet on which trainer they believe will rack up the most winners during the four days of the 2011 Cheltenham Festival. Paul Nicholls has very much been the top trainer over the past few years but Nicky Henderson is having a wonderful season and his string heading to Cheltenham is looking as strong as ever. Nicholls is still the slight favourite and he will be hoping that the likes of Big Buck's, Master Minded, Kauto Star and Denman all continue their fine records at Cheltenham. If they do then Paul Nicholls is likely to be the one to follow but if one or two are beaten over the first couple of days then punters can be sure that Nicky Henderson will be ready to swoop.

Henderson is having a great season and is pushing Nicholls all the way for the Champion Trainers title and a good week at Cheltenham will see him push ahead once again. He has a great record at the Cheltenham Festival but is enjoying somewhat of a renaissance at the moment with a massively powerful team heading to Prestbury Park next week. Some of his major stars heading to Cheltenham include defending Champion Hurdler Binocular, Supreme fancy Spirit Son and Gold Cup contender Long Run who will be bidding for a a first win in the race for Henderson. If one or two go in for Henderson early on in the Festival then his current odds of 13/8 in the Cheltenham Festival Top Trainer Odds could prove to be good value. Outside of Nicholls and Henderson in this market it may be worth considering Willie Mullins who as always is bringing over a strong team from Ireland. Punters who fancy the chances of the likes of Hurricane Fly, Zaidpour and Kempes may want to have a look at the 9/1 on offer from Victor Chandler about Willie Mullins claiming the top trainer award. In truth though it does look like a straight shoot-out between Henderson and Nicholls, as we get ready for one of the most exciting Festival's in years.
