Paul Nicholls will once again be the man to watch as we enter the new season with the Ditcheat Trainer already planning the way to the Cheltenham Festival in March. One horse that has been slightly forgotten from the Nicholls yard is the excellent Neptune Collonges, the excellent grey was tipped for big things last season after finishing 4th in the 2009 Gold Cup but was ruled out with an injury. The news out of the yard though is that he is back in training and looking in great shape ahead of the new season, he is reported to be well at home and is already figuring in the ante-post betting for some of the big 2011 Festival races.
The horse has two Guinness Gold Cups to his name and if he can return to his best he will be a real threat to the big names this season, he currently holds an entry to the Hennessy Gold Cup and a good run at Newbury will see the excitement build further. The nine-year-old could well prove a big threat to the likes of Imperial Commander and Kauto Star at the Cheltenham Festival next year with the Gold Cup the long term aim for connections if all things go to plan. It is likely that Neptune Collonges will come on for the run in the Hennessy after such a long break, but fitness depending he could well be ready to realise the potential that many have always believed he had.
