The Jockey Club has announced this week that their Chase Triple Crown bonus of £1million will once again be on offer this winter. The bonus money will be paid to the connections of any horse that can win the Betfair Chase at Haydock, the King George VI Chase at Kempton and the Cheltenham Gold Cup this season and the news has sparked off the usual debate.
Cue Card went very close to claiming the bonus last season only to fall in the Gold Cup when going really well having already won the Betfair Chase and the King George for Colin Tizzard. Assistant trainer Joe Tizzard was quick to say yesterday that Cue Card will once again be aimed at the three biggest chases of the season in the UK and at this stage, he looks like the most likely horse to go for the bonus.
Coneygree is another potential runner in the Betfair Chase as he looks to hit the injury recovery trail but at this stage it is hard to see any horse managing to win all three races with history suggesting it is one of the biggest asks in the sport. Bet Victor were quick out of the blocks offering any horse to win the Triple Crown at 33/1 with other firms going much shorter about the possibility and it is unlikely that too many are going to get involved at that price.
The £1million bonus has been met with some criticism on social media with the chances of any horse winning all three races considered unlikely but Cue Card did go very close last season and it will be fascinating to see if any horse can follow in his hoof steps this term. Should any horse claim the bonus the money will be split up as followed;
