The arrival of September means that the new National Hunt season is now just around the corner and some of the stars of the sport are already back in training and building up to the winter. That is the case for the majority of the horses at Seven Barrows where Nicky Henderson is planning the season for many of his key horses, including the classy My Tent Or Yours who still has two routes open to him this winter and looking further ahead to Cheltenham.
My Tent Or Yours was a close second in the Champion Hurdle back in March and connections are still to decide if he will be aimed at going one better in 2015 or if he will go for a novice chasing campaign. Getting MTOY to settle has always seemed to be the main problem for AP McCoy and Henderson in particular appears convinced that he is good enough to win a Champion Hurdle if they can achieve this. My Tent Or Yours won the Fighting Fifth and the Christmas Hurdle last season in Group 1 company which was top class but he did fall short again on the biggest stage at Cheltenham.
McCoy chose to ride MTOY ahead of ultimate winner Jezki in the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival which tells you about the talent both horses possess with both owned by JP McManus. The powerful owner will have a major say in the future of the seven-year-old with Jezki surely guaranteed to go back to the Champion Hurdle to defend his crown in 2015.
There is no doubt that My Tent Or Yours would be a welcome addition to the chasing ranks and a fascinating one at that going into the new campaign. He is currently a best price 12/1 with Bet365 to win the Arkle Chase, while the same animal is available at 8/1 with Bet Victor to go one better than last season and win the Champion Hurdle. It could be that Henderson and McManus wait to see the likely opposition for either race before making a decision on MTOY but there is no doubt that whichever path he goes down, the seven-year-old is likely to be a horse to watch once again this winter.
