Nicky Henderson looks to have another star on his hands this season after Minella Class won the Tolworth Hurdle in some style over the weekend. It was a decent renewal of the Tolworth at Sandown and in heavy ground he was too good for a field including the highly rated Megastar and the Paul Nicholls trained Toubab. Minella Class went off a well backed favourite and he scored for punters to enter the Novice Hurdle frame for the upcoming Cheltenham Festival. Henderson has indicated that he is likely to be targeted towards the 2 mile 5 furlong Neptune Investment Hurdle rather than the Supreme Novices over the 2 mile Tolworth trip at the Festival. Megastar was seven lengths behind Minella Class for Gary Moore at Sandown; he didn't lose too much in defeat ahead of a run in the Supreme Novices Hurdle at the Festival to further enhance the claims of the Nicky Henderson horse.
The Novices Hurdle division is looking a strong one this season with Cue Card the talking horse of the year, the Champion Bumper winner from last season looks to be the real deal and what race he takes in at the 2011 Cheltenham Festival will shape the betting. The Colin Tizzard horse is expected to go for the Supreme Novices Hurdle but could yet step up in class for a crack at the Champion Hurdle after running a decent race in the International Hurdle recently. Willie Mullins has as always got a strong hand in the Novices Hurdle division and in Zaidpour he looks to have a potential star on his hands. He suffered a defeat last time out but has to be given another chance after two brilliant wins earlier in the season and connections have a tough decision on their hands with him ahead of Cheltenham. At this stage Zaipour could go for the Supreme Novices Hurdle or take the extra trip on offer in the Neptune Investment Hurdle and a potential clash with Minella Class. The Neptune and the Supreme Novice Hurdles are looking extremely strong as we count down towards the Cheltenham Festival; we have a number of top class horses coming into form at just the right time and set to be spread between the two races.
