There is a new Gold Cup contender on the block in Midnight Chase after the Neil Mulholland horse won his 4th consecutive race at Prestbury Park, he is a hugely progressive horse and he now looks to be one to watch ahead of the Festival. The possibility of a Gold Cup run would have been laughed off by connections a couple of months ago, but after three wins already this season including last month at the Open meeting and his latest victory in at the International Meeting, he will now be aimed towards the showpiece race. His latest win in the Majordomo Hospitality Handicap Chase was without doubt his most impressive off of a big weight, he made a big error two from home only to recover and storm up the hill to claim a memorable victory to the delight of an approving Cheltenham crowd.
Neil Mulholland is only a young trainer but he already has a stable star in Midnight Chase on his hands, and he and owner Lady Clarke will now be ready to throw him in with the likes of Imperial Commander and Kauto Star at the Cheltenham Festival. The bookmakers were watching his run at the International Meeting very closely and were impressed enough to cut him across the board in the Cheltenham Gold Cup betting. He is a general 20/1 shot for the race now which could be good each-way value for punters, he loves it around Prestbury Park and as he has proven has no problem with the undulations of the track. He is yet to prove himself in with the big boys which does count against him but he will have one more run before the Gold Cup ahead of running fresh on the Final day of the Festival.
