Alan King has confirmed that Medermit will be heading to the Arkle Chase at Cheltenham next month following his win in the Scilly Isles Chase at Sandown over the weekend. Medermit, who was 7th in the Champion Hurdle last season, has enjoyed a fine Novice Chase season so far and has been well backed for the Arkle for some time now in the ante-post markets. The win in the Scilly Isles Chase was highly impressive over 2 miles 4f with Captain Chris back in second place, he appeared to be tiring slightly at Sandown making the 2 mile Arkle trip the ideal distance for him. The punters certainly believe he is one to watch in the Arkle and following his confirmation for the race he was cut all the way into around 5/1 with the major bookmakers. He is just in behind Finians Rainbow for Nicky Henderson, and the well fancied Ghizao who should go for Paul Nicholls in what is looking an extremely hot renewal with any of the trio in the frame for favouritism on the day.
Medermit was a top class hurdler and he has taken that form to the fences with three wins to his name already this season with the only blip coming at Huntingdon back in November when he ran out. It was a bizarre incident when he refused to jump but any doubts about him have been put to bed with three good runs since and he now goes to the Arkle Chase with a live chance of running a big race. Finians Rainbow looks to be the main challenger after two excellent wins so far this season and we will learn a lot more about him this weekend, he looks like taking his chance in the hugely competitive Kingmaker Novices Chase at Warwick and a good run there will consolidate his Arkle favouritism. The Arkle Chase is one of the most exciting and competitive races at any Cheltenham Festival and this season that is looking even more the case with Medermit the latest star to be confirmed.
