Following two false starts caused by rank outsider Marodima, the Queen Mother Champion Chase finally got underway and at the finish it was the result that everyone thought it would be, with Master Minded winning decisively. He won by by 5 lengths from Well Chief who was making a fantastic return to top class racing after 700 days off course, Petit Robin was a game third for the Nicky Henderson stable.
Fot the winner however it was all so simple, it was not his most spectacular run but it was a highly efficient one and one that earned him a 4-7 quote for next year's race. It was trainer, Paul Nicholls first winner of the Festival this year
Big Zeb, the fancied Irish raider fell at the top of the hill but there was no other horse in the race who had the ability to mount a decent challenge.
