Long Run was one of the most exciting young horses on the National Hunt scene last season and according to Nicky Henderson he could be ready to take on the big boys this year. He came across from France with a big reputation and showed some class beofre disappointing in the RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, he raced a little bit keen that day but with a years experience behind him he could be a big threat in 2010/11. With that in mind, Henderson has said he will be aimed towards the King George Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day and a clash with the big boys, he will be trying to stop Kauto Star winning his fifth successive edition of the prestigious race.
Long Run ran well at Kempton last year and should he put up a good show on Boxing Day, it will be all systems go towards a tilt at the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March. He is already looking an attractive each/way chance in the ante-post betting for the race and punters might be quick to take that value if he starts the season well, he is expected to get the extra trip nicely and at just five he has plenty of improvement to come. He will have a tough task against the older horses like Kauto Star and Imperial Commander this year but he could be anything at this stage with talent to burn, it only remains for connections to extract the best from the horse both at Kempton and then at the Cheltenham Festival itself.
