Jered’s impressive win in the Anglo Irish bank Hurdle at Down Royal on October 31st has earned him quote’s of around 6/1 to 8/1 for the Champion Hurdle, that takes place at the Cheltenham Festival in March next year. Jered, trained by Noel Meade and ridden brilliantly by Tony McCoy scored a ¾ length victory over Jessica Harrington’s smart, Cork All Star.
Jered had slipped in the betting with plenty of money coming in for Cork All Star, so much so that it was Cork All Star who eventually started favourite. However it is clear on this performance that Jered is a class horse and well worthy of his shortening price for the big end of season race. It should be remembered that he was giving 11lbs to the field.
Earlier trainer, Noel Meade had talked down his horses chances, believing that the ground might be his undoing, but there was no sign of that in the race. Meade also suggested that he would want to avoid the big guns, like Binocular and Katchit before Cheltenham. At this stage it is not known where he will run next.
