Following a relentless and blistering gallop set by Carruthers, it was the heavily backed Cooldine who emerged at the end of this 3 mile RSA Chase as the emphatic winner. it was yet again another win for the Walsh/Mullins partnership, who have scored three times at this 2009 Cheltenham Festival already.
Carruthers whilst running a brave race effectively committed racing suicide as he faded so badly from two fences out. Cooldine travelled like a dream throughout and was always in touch and following adreadful error two from home by Carruthers he simply took over the race.
The other major contenders, What A Friend could not go with the pace at the end of the race and Gone Too Lunch jumped far too badly to give himself any chance. The surprise of the race, was thge second place earned by a game Horner Woods who came second at 66-1; Massini's Maguire was third.
Irish horses now have a 6-3 lead after nine races at the Festival.
