How Many Gigginstown Cheltenham Festival Winners Can You Name?
The jumps racing world was rocked on Tuesday with the news that Gigginstown House Stud are to wind down their famous owners operation.
Eddie O'Leary, who has been talking on behalf of his brother Michael, has announced that they will cease buying store horses going forward which effectively means that when their current stars are retired, they are not going to be replaced.
The news has sent shock-waves through the sport in Ireland with powerful outfit one of the major investors in the sport over the past decade. The news is perhaps even more of a shock coming just a matter of weeks after Tiger Roll became the first horse since Red Rum to win the Grand National in successive years and it is sure to leave a hole in the industry.
It will be some time before we see the Gigginstown colours disappear altogether though with vast numbers of horses still in training with various handlers meaning there is every chance we will see their tally of Cheltenham Festival winners added to over the next two or three years.
At the time of writing, there are a host of Gigginstown owned horses in the ante-post betting for various Cheltenham races in 2020 including;
Apple's Jade - 6/1 for the Mares Hurdle
Abacadabras - 25/1 for the Ballymore Novices Hurdle
