The Old Roan Chase at Aintree has proven to be an excellent form pointer for the Cheltenham Festival over recent years and we look to have another excellent winner this season. The Nick Williams trained For Non Stop produced a scintillating performance at Aintree over the weekend to claim the Old Roan by 23 lengths which marked him out as live Ryanair Chase contender for the Festival in March. For Non Stop ran a cracker at the Festival last season to finish third behind the highly rated Sir Des Champs in the Jewson Novices Chase and he looks to have improved further this season to the delight of connections. The Old Roan has been won by the likes of Kauto Star and Albertas Run over the past few years and punters will need little reminding of the class of those two famous horses making For Non Stop a hugely exciting prospect over the coming months.
The Ryanair Chase has grown into one of the highlights of the Cheltenham Festival in recent years and already the 2013 race is shaping up to be a potential classic. Along with For Non Stop there are some top class chasers currently in the ante post betting for the race. 2012 Champion Chaser Finians Rainbow is one who could take his chance with connections mulling over a step up in trip to avoid stable mate Sprinter Sacre. He would be a major contender in the Ryanair along with another Nicky Henderson inmate in the form of Riverside Theatre who famously won the race last season in a thrilling finish. Ireland will as always have a strong representation in the race with the likes of Flemenstar and First Lieutenant under consideration for the Ryanair at this early stage of the season. It has to be said that at this stage any ante post Ryanair bets will come with plenty of risk with the Festival some months away and and plenty of horses yet to find their ideal trip.
