Most of the star names in National Hunt Racing have already returned to the track this season but in Dunguib we are waiting to see a potential Champion Hurdle contender for this season. Connections have announced that the top novice from last season will return to the course in January or February ahead of a potential tilt at the 2011 Champion Hurdle in March. Dunguib was the odds on favourite for the Supreme Novices Hurdle last season at the Cheltenham Festival after four successive wins, but failed to live up to the hype to finish third behind Menorah and Get Me Out Of Here. He is understood to be in great condition at home ahead this season though and we could have another contender enter the already muddy water of the Champion Hurdle.
Dunguib is likely to start his season off in the either the Limestone Lad Hurdle or the Red Mills Trial at Gowran Park in January and we should learn a lot more about his potential for this season. Trainer Philip Fenton has said he will come on for the run but a good win for Dunguib in one of those races we will surely see his Champion Hurdle price slashed and join the likes of Hurricane Fly, Menorah and Peddlers Cross near the top of the market. The feature race on day one of the at the Festival is alredy shaping up to be the highlight of the 2011 Cheltenham meeting and if Dunguib can enter the picture it will become all the more exciting from a betting point of view. He is a horse that clearly has the talent based on his novice campaign but the worry about him lies with that less than impressive run behind Menorah at last season's Festival. If he proves that was a mere blip then we could be getting ready to have a look at one of the real contenders for the Champion Hurdle in Dunguib.
