Dodging Bullets was a battling winner of the Queen Mother Champion Chase, as the 9/2 shot handed Paul Nicholls and Sam Twiston-Davies a superb double on the card, as the multiple Graded winner saw off Somersby in a thrilling finish, as fancied duo Sprinter Sacre and Sire De Grugy failed to land a blow.
Having just piloted Aux Ptits Soins to glory in the Coral Cup, Twiston-Davies oozed confidence on his Ditcheat raider in the Champion Chase as he sat in behind the front-running Special Tiara, who set off a huge rate of knots, and he was always travelling like he would be in the shake-up.
Sire De Grugy and Sprinter Sacre were kept towards the back of the field and the former made a couple of sketchy jumping errors which wouldn't have helpded his chances, whilst the latter was pulled up between the last two fences when his chance had gone.
However, up front whilst Twiston-Davies had dealt with Special Tiara, who failed to keep up the gallop, it was the 33/1 outsider Somersby who was putting in another sparkling performance in this 2m Championship contest and Mick Channon's raider battled to the line.
Somersby was upsides Dodging Bullets as they approached the last fence and a brace of slick jumps saw a real battle royale emerge up the home straight, but the veteran legs of Mick Channon's raider were unable to find that extra little bit of propulsion and it was Dodging Bullets who landed the prize by one-and-a-quarter lengths.
