There is no hotter name in racing at the moment than that of Cue Card, the Champion Bumper winner from March has taken to Hurdles with supreme style and he could now head to the International Hurdle at Cheltenham next weekend. The International Meeting is always a high class couple of days but the Hurdle race in particular is shaping up to be a cracker with Cue Card set to test his potential Champion Hurdle claims. It had been assumed at the start of the season that Cue Card would take the natural route to the Supreme Novices Hurdle, but after a couple of brilliant wins there are thoughts that he could go straight into Champion Hurdle company. Connections will know a lot more after the International Hurdle as Cue Card looks set to take on both Menorah and Silviniaco Conti, who have both already proven this season that they are real threats for the Champion Hurdle.
Whoever wins the International will be in great shape for the 2011 Cheltenham Festival should they produce a polished performance, but most eyes will be on Cue Card as he takes on the older more experienced horses for the very first time. Should the Colin Tizzard horse hold his own as expected he could take in the Champion Hurdle in March, while a poor run is likely to see him aimed towards his original target of the Supreme Novices Hurdle which is a race he is the hot favourite for. Silviniaco Conti is a vastly improved horse as he showed in winning the Ascot Hurdle recently, the Paul Nicholls horse surprised everyone that day and will now need to show that was not a flash in the pan as he steps up in class. At the moment the bookmakers are wary of all three of the main contenders here in the Champion Hurdle betting, but the winner of the International Hurdle is sure to be slashed even further for the big Cheltenham Festival race in March.
