The entries for the Supreme Novices Hurdle have been released and there is no surprise to see ante-post favourite Cue Card heading up the list at this early stage. There is no guarantee that we will see Cue Card take his chance though with connections still mulling over the possibility of sending their 2010 Champion Bumper winner to the Champion Hurdle. Cue Card had no problem at all in winning his first two starts as a Novice Hurdler this season, and then followed that up with a creditable second place behind Menorah when stepping up in class in the International Hurdle at Cheltenham before Christmas. That run behind the Supreme Novices Winner from last season has raised the idea of a Champion Hurdle run and it appears to be a genuine possibility with Colin Tizzard announcing that the decision will be made much closer to the Festival next month.
At this stage it has to be said that we are much more likely to see Cue Card take his chance in the Supreme Novices Hurdle this season before stepping up to Champion Hurdle company next year. The bookmakers have been careful to be on the right side of him all season and Cue Card remains a warm order to claim victory in the first race of the 2011 Cheltenham Festival next month. All of Cue Card's main rivals in the Supreme Novices betting are on the list of entries with the stand-out being Zaidpour, who despite a surprise defeat at Leopardstown in December remains the biggest threat. The Willie Mullins horse dotted up on his first two starts over hurdles and looks to have all the talent in the world making him one to watch in this division. The doubt about Zaidpour is the trip with his connections also still to decide on his Festival race, he has also been entered for the Neptune Management Novices Hurdle which would offer him the extra half mile so punters are advised to keep their powder dry at this stage with Zaidpour.
