Last season's Champion Bumper winner Cue Card, made a hugely impressive debut over hurdles at the weekend as he began his campaign towards the 2011 Cheltenham Festival. Making his first start over the hurdles he was in control from the off and looked to have no problems with the 2m 4f trip on offer at Aintree. The Colin Tizzard horse went off as an odds-on favourite after his Festival win in March and he looks to have the class to kick on further, the bookmakers were suitably impressed and Cue Card was cut further in the Supreme Novices Hurdle Betting as a result.
However, it is by no means a sure thing that Cue Card will take the natural route to the Supreme Novices hurdle with the longer trip of the Neptune Novices Hurdle still under consideration for the 2011 Cheltenham Festival. He showed on Saturday the trip should be no problem while connections also believe he has the pace needed to go well at the 2mile Supreme Novices trip. Much will depend on how his season progresses with his next run set to be at the Cheltenham Open Meeting, another good performance there will see his price for both Cheltenham races nibbled at once again.
