Classy Josses Looks A Juicy Tingle Creek Chase Bet

Thursday 3rd December 2015

Few races on the National hunt calendar are as a prestigious and rich in history as the Tingle Creek Chase is and once again we cannot wait for the race this season. Moscow Flyer, Kauto Star, Master Minded, Sizing Europe and Sprinter Sacre are just some of the names on the roll of honour of this race since the turn of the century and it once again should be a cracking contest this weekend.

Wide Open Betting This season

This past week has seen both Sprinter Sacre and Un De Sceaux scratched from the field which is disappointing but what that does mean is that we are left with a wide open market. All eight of these will have hopes of running in the Queen Mother Champion Chase come March and it we have a mixture of former champions looking to regain their best form up against second season chasers stepping up in class.

Paul Nicholls has won the Tingle Creek Chase a remarkable nine times as a trainer and that alone is enough to ensure any runner from Ditcheat is respected greatly. The Ditcheat handler has two in the field this term with Vibrato Valtat the clear first string.

The grey was a decent novice chaser as he showed when 5th in the Arkle last term but he looked much better than that on seasonal debut this term when he streaked to victory in the Haldon Gold Cup and hopes are surely high in Ditcheat that he can repeat the trick of Dodging Bullets from last year. Vibrato Valtat is young and progressive and as such is rightly a favourite here at a price of 9/4 with Paddy Power.

Mr Mole (14/1) is the Ditcheat second string and although he is talented, he remains unpredictable and very difficult to back with any confidence these days which means he is one to draw a line through.

Simonsig (7/2) and Sire De Grugy (7/1) are equally hard to predict to be honest and punters backing either will be doing so at their own risk. We all know how good Simonsig used to be and he at least showed his enthusiasm recently when 2nd to Bobs Worth on his first start for well over two years. He did show nothing off the bridle that day which would be a worry although a drop down in trip should suit the former Arkle winner.

Simonsig is best watched on this occasion while the same can be said of Sire De Grugy who is a former Tingle Creek winner. He has been dismal by his standards of late though with his last place in the Haldon Gold Cup a very poor run and although the fact he is running at all is of interest, he has loads to find with Vibrato Valtat on that Exeter run.

Special Tiara (5/1) is a Grade 1 winner at Sandown which is interesting but ran very poorly on seasonal debut and prefers spring ground, while Somersby (12/1) will run well as always, but you have to assume he will find one or two too good as is the norm for him.

This is a very tough betting heat but the one we are prepared to take a chance on at a juicier price is Josses Hill. The Nicky Henderson horse has never looked a natural chaser but such is his class that he more often than not tends to get involved in the places. As a hurdler he was good enough to finish 2nd behind Vautour in a Supreme, while his 3rd place in the Arkle last term was a fine effort after jumping poorly and it should be remembered he was three lengths clear of Vibrato Valtat that day.

Josses Hill can jump to his right which shouldn't be a problem at Sandown and given that he is at 14/1 with Bet 365, he can be backed at each-way given the eight runner field at the time of writing.

Tip - Josses Hill each-way @ 14/1 with Bet 365.com
