Cheltenham Gold Cup Runners 2019: All The Information Needed To Pick Your Gold Cup Selection

Presenting Percy is favourite to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup
Presenting Percy is favourite to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup

A star-studded field of 16 runners will go to post for the 2019 Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup at 3:30pm on Friday afternoon, and it will be the Pat Kelly-trained Presenting Percy who will likely start favourite for the showpiece event of the Cheltenham Festival.

A dual festival winner, Presenting Percy is aiming to secure a hat-trick of wins at the Prestbury Park extravaganza and the Irish raider is sure to prove popular amongst punters.  A winner last time out over hurdles, the eight-year-old will be ridden by former Gold Cup-winning jockey Davy Russell.

Reigning champion Native River will spearhead the British charge as he looks to become the first horse since Best Mate to win back-to-back Gold Cups, but with the ground drying out at Cheltenham then he will need to dig deep to produce his best work on quicker ground.

King George VI Chase winner Clan Des Obeaux heads into the race with the best form in the book for this season, and he is looking to hand Paul Nicholls more success in this race, but he has failed to taste victory in his last three visits to Cheltenham, so will arguably need to put up a career best.

Willie Mullins has been a dominate figure at the festival for the last decade, but the master of Closutton is still yet to pick up a Gold Cup win, but he will saddle a four-pronged attack at this year's race with Bellshill, Kemboy and Al Boum Photo all likely to stand a chance of giving him his first win.

Might Bite was a fine runner-up to Native River last year, but he has failed to show his best form this season, while former Stayers' Hurdle hero Thistlecrack ran a stormer when second behind Clan Des Obeaux in the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on Boxing Day, and he will add more strength in depth to the Colin Tizzard team, who also saddle last year's champion Native River.

It's a race awash with quality, so the majority of the 16 runners will head to post with a significant chance of claiming the prize, but to help you make your selection we have a vital Gold Cup racecard for you to make your selection and by clicking on the odds you can place a bet with Paddy Power!

15:30 Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase (Grade 1)
Order By Odds
# Runner

Al Boum Photo
P Townend W P Mullins Form: F2F1R-1 Age: 7 / Weight: 11-10
A faller when travelling well in last season's RSA Chase. Has Grade 1 winning form and warmed up for this race with a Listed victory at Tramore in January.

Anibale Fly
B J Geraghty A J Martin Form: 1F34-62 Age: 9 / Weight: 11-10
Third in this race last season off a big price before going on to place in the Grand National at Aintree. A big price again, an under the radar horse who stays all day he has each way claims.

R Walsh W P Mullins Form: 3/151-41 Age: 9 / Weight: 11-10
Some late support for this horse with Ruby Walsh choosing to ride the nine year old winner of the Irish Gold Cup last month. Has a squeak but Cheltenham form a worry. He might just not like the track!

Bristol De Mai
D A Jacob N A Twiston-Davies Form: 1632-1F Age: 8 / Weight: 11-10
Sluiced through the mud to win this emphatically last year

Clan Des Obeaux
Harry Cobden P F Nicholls Form: 123-411 Age: 7 / Weight: 11-10
A lively outsider who is expected to improve this season

Definitly Red
Danny Cook B Ellison Form: 16U-112 Age: 10 / Weight: 11-10
A big price given he came into last year's race an 8/1 chance. Twice a winner last season but got turned over when a 1/6F at Kelso in his prep run and the market doesn't rate his chances.

Double Shuffle
J J Burke T R George Form: 74-F252 Age: 9 / Weight: 11-10
An outsider who tends to reserve his best form for flat tracks. Has plenty to find on ratings and it would be a big surprise were he to better the fifth place he got at Kempton in the King George.

Elegant Escape
T J O'Brien C L Tizzard Form: 33-1212 Age: 7 / Weight: 11-10
An interesting each way play. Still only seven, he won the Welsh Grand National at Christmas and has some form in behind yesterday's Ryanair Chase winner Frodon on his last start. Stays longer than the mother in law and could run into a place.

Invitation Only
Mr P W Mullins W P Mullins Form: 3P3U-31 Age: 8 / Weight: 11-10
Willie Mullins fourth string. Winner of the Thyestes Chase on his last start in handicap company but this looks like being too big a step up in class.

D J Mullins W P Mullins Form: 4F11-11 Age: 7 / Weight: 11-10
Unbeaten in his last four starts and a rapid improver. Winner of the Grade 1 Savills Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas has obvious claims for Willie Mullins although looks like being the third string based on the jockey bookings.

Might Bite
Nico de Boinville N J Henderson Form: 1121-57 Age: 10 / Weight: 11-10
Hugely talented and quirky chaser who is the one to beat

Native River
R Johnson C L Tizzard Form: 13/11-23 Age: 9 / Weight: 11-10
Last season's Gold Cup winner will hope to conform the form with Might Bite

Presenting Percy
D N Russell P G Kelly Form: 31121-1 Age: 8 / Weight: 11-10
Destroyed the RSA Chase field at last year's Festival but this season's campaign has been shrouded in mystery having only raced once over hurdles all year. He's been the bookmakers' favourite or thereabouts for the last 12 months and that doesn't look like changing.

T Scudamore C L Tizzard Form: 12/54-32 Age: 11 / Weight: 11-10
Won the King George two years ago but has had problems since

Yala Enki
Charlie Deutsch Miss V Williams Form: 166-135 Age: 9 / Weight: 11-10
The outsider of the field but the trainer/jockey combined to nearly cause an upset in Thursday's Ryanair Chase with Aso. The lowest rated gelding in the field he has too much to find in this opposition.

Shattered Love
J W Kennedy G Elliott Form: 125-220 Age: 8 / Weight: 11-3
The only mare in the field. She has has the benefit of a recent run
