Sizing Europe was the excellent winner of the Arkle Challenge Trophy at the 2010 Cheltenham Festival in one of the most exciting races of the week, the natural progression for an Arkle winner is to be aimed towards a crack at the Champion Chase the following season. It has emerged though that trainer Henry de Bromhead is eager to try his stable star over a longer trip with half an eye on the King George Chase on Boxing Day. He will make his seasonal reappearance at Punchestown over 2 mile 6f and a good run there could see him in with the big boys and a tilt at the 2011 Gold Cup.
De Bromhead clearly believes Sizing Europe will relish the extra trip with his season now set to take one of two paths, a poor run over the longer trip will see him aimed towards the Queen Mother Champion Chase as expected and the bookmakers believe he is in with a great chance in that company. One or two bookies have also priced him up as outsider in the Gold Cup Betting over the extra trip but most believe a crack at the likes of Imperial Commander and Kauto Star could be a step too far. A good run at Punchestown in October though will see that change with punters and connections set to be watching that race with great interest, either way Sizing Europe could well be one of the big stars of the new National Hunt season.
