Cheltenham Festival Day 2 Tips - Our Best Bets For Every Race On Wednesday Including The Queen Mother Champion Chase

Min could give Altior something to think about in the Champion Chase on Wednesday
Min could give Altior something to think about in the Champion Chase on Wednesday

After a phenomenal opening day at the Cheltenham Festival, we now turn our attentions to Cheltenham day two and we have picked out our best bets for Wednesday's action, with the feature race being the Queen Mother Champion Chase at 3:30pm.

Ballymore Novices' Hurdle

Nicky Henderson's Champ has been in terrific form this season and was a fine winner of the Challow Novices' Hurdle at Newbury.  However, that race lacked significant strength in depth, and the Seven Barrows inmate has been running in handicap events this season, so this Ballymore could be a bit beyond him.  Gordon Elliott's Battleoverdoyen has more impressive form on his CV and he was a fine winner of a Grade 1 contest at Naas in his last start and he shaped like there's a lot more to come over timber and he can storm to victory for the Irish here.

RSA Chase

Gordon Elliott will aim to bag more success race on the card and last year's Pertemps Final winner Delta Work has been heavily backed in the weeks leading up to the Cheltenham Festival and he has to be the one to beat.  His price has plummeted since the news Santini had picked up a minor leg problem over the last week, but Nicky Henderson's staying star has to be a lively opponent, should he take his chance.  Henderson will certainly not run him if he is not 100%, but he looks to be a real staying chaser for the future and he will have no problems with the rain-softened ground at Cheltenham.  Topofthegame will be another lively contender, but Santini showed when winning a Grade 2 earlier in the season that he has superb potential and he is a cracking bet in the RSA.

Coral Cup

A monster field of 26 runners go to post for the Coral Cup, but after a fine opening day it's Willie Mullins that is bidding for more Cheltenham Festival glory in the shape of Uradel, who is a clear favourite for this contest.  However, the Colin Tizzard-trained Vision Des Flos is an eye-catching contender in the higher echelons of the handicap and is a terrific each-way contender.  Winning form on heavy ground, Vision Des Flos was last seen winning the Grade 2 National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell Park, so this could be a potentially easier task, and while he will have to down some potentially less exposed runners he must be a major player at decent odds.

Queen Mother Champion Chase

Altior will be a red-hot favourite to retain his Queen Mother Champion Chase and the Nicky Henderson-trained superstar is entitled to be a short-priced jolly for the showpiece race on day two.  Unbeaten over fences, Altior has amassed three wins from three runs this season, but could Min be a lively adversary in the Champion Chase?  Beaten on his two previous visits to the Cheltenham Festival (Altior beat him by seven lengths on two occasions), Min has unearthed some career best form this season, and the in-form Willie Mullins contender will fancy putting some pressure on Altior.  Ruby Walsh will need to adopt patient tactics on board the multiple Grade 1 winner, and it's a tough ask, but if Min can stalk the leaders throughout the race and manage to just ease his way into the race then he could potentially win narrowly.  A race to be fought out between the pair of them, Min is the value bet in what should be a thrilling encounter.

Cross Country Chase

A three-times Cheltenham Festival winner, Tiger Roll enhanced his glittering CV last April with a memorable win in the Grand National at Aintree.  Heading into the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase as the reigning champion, Tiger Roll is the class performer of the race, and it's hard to see him not bagging his second Cross Country win and a stunning fourth festival win.  Auvergnat and Josies Orders are lively rivals, but off level weights it's hard to not see the Tiger roaring on Wednesday.

Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle

A smart Flat performer, Band Of Outlaws has improved significantly for a switch to hurdles and he is entitled to be the market leader for the Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle, which is the penultimate race on day two.  An eye-catching winner at Naas on his last start, this four-year-old could have a lot more class than his rivals, and it would be no surprise to see him land the prize for Joseph O'Brien, who has a smart team heading to Prestbury Park this season.

Champion Bumper

Blue Sari and Envoi Allen are fighting it out for favouritism in the Champion Bumper, and it's the former of that pair that can reign supreme in the National Hunt Flat Race, which concludes proceedings on day two.  Mightily impressive when beating a smart Joseph O'Brien inmate on his sole start, Blue Sari's 11-length win that day was one of the performances of the season in the bumper sphere, and the Willie Mullins-trained star can build on that effort and bag a Cheltenham Festival success on only his second start under Rules.
