Menorah was one of the stars of last season for Philip Hobbs, and connections are hoping he continues his upward curve with the Champion Hurdle the aim for the upcoming campaign. The winner of the Supreme Novices Hurdle in March will make his seasonal debut at the Open meeting at Cheltenham this weekend in the Greatwood Hurdle, and a decent performance off of top weight will convince connections that he can mix it in Champion Hurdle company. At the same time, there have been one or two rumours that he may be switched to chasing if he fails to cut the mustard on Sunday, it looks a tough field for Menorah with the likes of Sanctuaire and General Miller both set to take their chances in the Greatwood.
The clash between Menorah and General Miller will be of particular interest after Menorah lost out to the Nicky Henderson horse at Aintree in April to reverse the form from the Cheltenham Festival the month before. At this stage it is Menorah who is the shorter price in the betting for the Champion Hurdle in March but General Miller could be one to watch this season at a nice ante post price. It is certainly a make-or-break race on Sunday for Menorah as we get to find out his potential route back to the Festival, a good run will see him take on Binocular and company in the Champion Hurdle and that is the first priority for connections. Likewise, if Menorah struggles around Cheltenham on Sunday it is likely to be decided that the form from the Supreme Novices last season does not match up and he will be switched to a chasing campaign.
