Sizing Europe was the emphatic winner of the Champion Chase at Cheltenham last season and he will be back at his best trip this weekend as he takes in the Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown. Connections have been trying the Queen Mother winner from last season over the extended three mile trip but he will drop back down for the Tingle Creek and most believe he is at his best over two miles. Sizing Europe was massively impressive at the Festival last season as he blew the field away and it now appears he will be going back to the same race in March. Henry de Bromhead has tested him over further and although he has run well he has come up a little short in top class company, which is likely to rule him out of a run in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham.
At the moment Sizing Europe is at the head of the Queen Mother Champion Chase Betting for the Festival and a good run this weekend in the Tingle Creek Chase will see his price contract further. It's looking like a hot renewal this year with a mixture of experienced horses set to take on a good crop of younger types in what is always one of the most popular races of the Cheltenham Festival. As usual we are seeing some of the horses from last year's Arkle Chase step up to the Champion Chase and they are always worth keeping an eye from a betting point of view. Captain Chris and Finians Rainbow were the first two home in the Arkle last season and both are likely to go to the Champion Chase and they have to be given plenty of respect. A number of recent Arkle winners have successfully made the step up to Champion Chase company, including the likes of Moscow Flyer and Voy Por Ustedes which only highlights how dangerous the younger horses can be in this race.
