Buveur D'air Blitzes His Rivals In Champion Hurdle Romp

Tuesday 14th March 2017

Buveur D'air was a sensational winner of the Stan James Champion Hurdle, as the Nicky Henderson-trained raider blitzed his rivals in the opening day showpiece to hand the Seven Barrows handler a second winner of the day following Altior's win in the Arkle.

Sent off a 5/1 second favourite, the JP McManus-owned raider, who returned to hurdles after a brief novice chasing career, was on a different stratosphere, as he tanked into the race under Noel Fehily, and duly pulled four-and-a-half lengths clear of My Tent Or Yours, who ran a stormed to finish second for the third time in this race.

Well-backed favourite Yanworth struggled to land any sort of blow for Alan King, as he toiled in the final stages, while the supplemented novice Moon Racer was another that failed to sparkle in this event, but it was all about one horse and that was Buveur D'air, who was a stunning winner, and duly handed the abovementioned McManus his 50th winner at the Cheltenham Festival, as an owner.
