When Binocular won the Champion Hurdle in emphatic style in 2010 most believed he would rule the division for years to come. However that was not to be the case as injury and loss of form has meant that the Nicky Henderson horse has failed to reproduce that level since. There is a new Champion Hurdle star on the scene in Hurricane Fly from Ireland and it will be interesting to see how Binocular matches up to him if they both arrive at Cheltenham fit and on form. The Christmas period is always a crucial period for racing and Binocular will be bidding to get his season back on track in the Christmas Hurdle. He started his season off with a second place behind Overturn in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle last month and most expect him to have improved for that run in time for Kempton on Boxing Day.
Binocular will rematch with the highly competitive Overturn on Boxing Day and he will need to reverse the form from Newcastle of he is to have realistic Champion Hurdle hopes come March. Also set to run in the Christmas Hurdle is the exciting Rock On Ruby who made a taking seasonal debut at Newbury last month after he finished second in the Neptune Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham last season. The Paul Nicholls horse is the X-Factor in this race at Kempton as he steps up in class for the first time to run in one of the key Champion Hurdle trial races of the season. All eyes will be on Binocular though as he looks to bounce back to his very best form at Kempton and a win for the horse will only serve to spice up an already intriguing Champion Hurdle Betting market.
