Al Ferof ridden brilliantly ridden by Ruby Walsh stormed home to win the Cheltenham Festival opener, the Supreme Novices Hurdle with odds of 10/1. It meant that punters got off to the worst possible start with hot favourite, Cue Card only managing fourth place in what was a great climax to the race. Favourites have a notoriously bad record in this race and there were no excuses offered by Cue Card jockey, Joe Tizzard, who confirmed that he was beaten by better horses on the day.
Second and third were the Nicky Henderson pair, Sprinter Sacre, ridden by Barry Geraghty and Spirit Son with AP McCoy on board. The result confirms that the top stables of Paul Nicholls and Nicky Henderson are both in good form for the Festival. It was the second time the Nicholls stable has won the race.
