Scottish Grand National Odds
The Scottish Grand National is a grade 3 handicap race and is the last of the four 'Nationals' to be run in the UK and Ireland each season. The Aintree Grand National is of course the big race but the Scottish version at Ayr is also well regarded and remains one of the highlights of the National Hunt calendar. The race is run over a trip of 4 miles and 110 yards making it a real test while horses that run well here will often be aimed at the Aintree version the following season.
There is no doubt that the most famous winner of the Scottish Grand National was the great Red Rum who won in 1974 having also won the Aintree version in the same season. More recently we have seen Merigo win the race twice in 2010 and 2012, he always seemed to save his best for Ayr in the Spring time and it will be fascinating to see who follows him.
